Thank You Card Etiquette

Growing up, my parents always stressed the importance of a thank you card. I know there are certain rules to follow when sending them- rules about how long it takes to mail it, the situation for which you are sending the card, and stuff like that.

A friend of mine just got married and is facing a problem that I have been facing over the past few years. She received presents from people she didn't know- people who weren't even invited to the wedding that just sent a gift. Yes I think this is creepy and yes it happened to me. It also happened when Hudson was born and continues to happen for his birthday and our anniversary.

So in honor of my recently married friend, I am invoking a new thank you card rule:

If I don't you know you, you don't get a card- and its creepy that you are sending a gift.

The real question should be how are these people getting my address and my newly married friend's address if we don't know them? So I am invoking another 'rule of thumb':

Don't give out someones address or other contact information without permission- this can lead to the receipt of creepy gifts and uncomfortable thank you card situations.

PS No one ever sends us thank you cards
